Venice Revisited 3
Sometimes you look at a picture and you see that the colors are attractive, but there's something about the image that has more texture, pattern, or value and that a greyscale version seems more appropriate. That's what I decided about this batch. The picture with the swirling clouds was a carved wooden decoration over a doorway. I was immediately attracted to it because the paint was cracked and peeling and the grain of the wood was showing.
The Palazzo Ca' D'or was a Gothic palace on the Grand Canal. I've read that it's open again after years of restoration. The repeating pattern of the colonnade and the pointed windows provides both a composition in repetition and values. ![]() ![]() ![]()
